Ari was lucky enough to win the George Creamer 'SEA DEVIL' Memorial Trophy. This is for the Small Fry Angler with the Most Meritorious Achievement in either Capture or Tag & Release for NSW. This season he was able to tag & release 5 x Black Marlin, his first Striped Marlin, as well as a few Whaler and Hammerhead Sharks — all at the age of 9.

The new fishing year is now well under way ,a few club boats have been fishing. “Magic “ went out for a daytime drop for Broadbill ,the rig to get the bait to the bottom worked well .A few albacore & striped tuna were also caught. “Captain Cranky” Fished out of Batemans Bay for a Yellowfin approx. 60Kg to Andy Clarke, but this fish was not weighed. “2 Small” have been out and about, deep dropping (getting a few ling and blue-eye) although the deep fish have seemed to slowed up over the last couple of weeks, and deep dropping for swordfish (no luck yet) They also Tried their luck over 3 weekends for 6 from 8 sharks tagged on the first day One of which was caught on 15Kg Tippet Fly gear. Well done Blake. Their second trip saw 3 from 6 sharks tagged A sloppy sea on the 3rd day saw no results, The Waltons now have new boat moored at their wharf. Good luck with your 28 Caribbean for the year. The new NSWGFA tag & release point score for Sharks is now in force. Check the clubs year book on the website. Our clubs part of the new building at the Greenwell Point Bowling Club is Now fitted out with shelving for all of our Perpetual Trophies & the gear needed to run the club. The Committee would like to thank the Bowling Club for our part of the new building. We will make good use of the extra space. Good luck to all boats this season, with a zone weekend coming up this weekend, and a few decent yellowfin caught today, from reports there in massive schools, although travaling fast, lets all get out there and help our southern zone.

I have sort clarification of the rules where a fish is tagged and then continued to be fought with the intention of possibly capturing it and claiming the capture rather than the T&R points. The response from NWGFA follows... NSWGFA has a specific rule regarding this issue. Refer page 6 NSWGFA By-Laws & Regulations July 2013 (h) 8. The wording is below in red . A fish is considered tagged and released when the tag is secured to the fish and the fish is released back into the water alive. Therefore the answer to the question is quite simple. A Tag & Release cannot be claimed until the fish is tagged and is then released back into the water alive. The word released means, “ release, free, dismiss, discharge, liberate all mean to let loose or let go. Release and free both suggest a helpful action”. By continuing to fight a fish after it has been tagged and not purposely released, and then subsequently lost, then the Tag & release cannot be claimed because the fish has won and has not been released by the action of the crew in removing the hook or cutting the line. If the fish is subsequently brought to the boat and the skipper and angler decide to take the fish then that is within the rule and capture points can be claimed. It is also expected that the tag that was put in the fish in the first place be removed so it can be used again so no tag wastage occurs. Hope this clarifies the question and I am OK with this response being sent to any person or club if that is the desire of NSWGFA & GFAA.
